An important part of the work of the Lieutenant-Governor and his wife is to support and encourage public and voluntary service. This is achieved through involvement with charities and other organisations.
About 100 organisations list the Lieutenant-Governor and his wife as patron or president. The benefits of the Lieutenant-Governor and his wife’s patronages include:
- adding status to an organisation
- increasing publicity through visits and their personal involvement
Patronages only last for the duration of the Lieutenant-Governor’s tenure. Sometimes the Lieutenant-Governor and his wife might take on a patronage relating to a specific campaign or event which only lasts a fixed length of time
Role and Responsibilities as Patron or President for the Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey
His Excellency wishes to promote and support the work of your organisation as The King’s personal representative in Jersey, by increasing publicity and awareness through visits and his personal involvement, which may comprise:
- Use of His Excellency’s name and photo in your organisation’s publicity, such as letterheads, annual reports, website, newsletters and fundraising appeal letters
- His Excellency to receive regular briefings and information about the work of the organisation
- Visits by His Excellency to understand the work of the organisation or to open, attend or participate in events
- His Excellency to host events at Government House on behalf of the organisation
His Excellency has no legal status or binding obligations and does not have any responsibility for the operational and financial management of the organisation.
His Excellency’s Patronage will last for the duration of his tenure as Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey.
Dr Kyd, Role and Responsibilities as Patron or President
As your Patron Dr Kyd wishes to promote and support the work of your organisation, by increasing publicity and awareness through visits and her personal involvement, which may comprise:
- Use of Dr Kyd’s name and photo in your organisation’s publicity, such as letterheads, annual reports, website, newsletters and fundraising appeal letters
- Dr Kyd to receive regular briefings and information about the work of the organisation
- Visits by Dr Kyd to understand the work of the organisation or to open, attend or participate in events
- Dr Kyd to host events at Government House on behalf of the organisation

Dr Kyd’s Patronage will last for the duration of Vice Admiral Jeremy Kyd’s tenure as Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey.
